'I do believe she was only trying to help me come to the decision that would be easier for me to live with but after consideration I didn't feel like I had much choice.' 'She told me she had known women who had been in this situation and warned me that once people knew it would be very hard to get on with life without being constantly discredited for it. ‘Her advice was to really consider this before choosing to report it and possibly look at getting on with life without reporting it. I remember aching all over from the terrible things he did to me that night. I felt ashamed, dirty and sick and was in so much pain. ‘I distinctly remember standing in the room with the nurse after being examined and having them list my injuries. ‘I felt lucky to be able to leave the next morning as I didn't believe that I would be doing so. ‘I honestly thought he was going to kill me that night, I thought he was going to rape me and kill me and that my life would be over. ‘I distinctly remember his words: “Come on you can trust me, I am the safest person you can be around I am a police officer. She said: 'For the past 19 years I've been lost in my own life mainly due to this one event. ![]() In the woman's victim impact statement read out to court, the woman described how 'that night I had encountered evil'. The victim added that the nurse had told her 'the law tend to protect their own'. The A&E nurse also told that victim that this was not the first time she had heard that a police officer had raped somebody, and 'unfortunately didn't think it would be the last'. 'As a result, (the victim) did not report the matter to the police at the time.' 'She said as she was young, she might be better to try to put it behind her and move on. '(The victim) told the police that the nurse in A&E told her that she needed to be ready if she was going to complain about it and that even if she did it might not go to court. ![]()
